Garbage disposals are perhaps the most sanitary way to dispose of food, which can rot and cause your trash can to smell in the kitchen.

If you are like the rest of us, you've probably had your disposal clogged or jammed. Sometimes you can fix it yourself, and others you will have to call a technician and perhaps even have it replaced if the damage is bad. There are some common sense tricks to keep it running smoothly. While grinding, always turn the cold water on. Make sure you don't pour fats or oils down the drain though, since they can congeal and clog it. When not using the disposal, cover it with a sink stopper to avoid accidentally dropping a spoon or other utensil in it, or glass, which can seriously damage your device.

Be safe and do not put your fingers down the drain! I know you know this, but it never hurts to remind.
